| A daredevil photographer has taken a set of spectacular yet stomach-dropping pictures from the dizzy heights of the Golden Gate Bridge. The mystery stuntman climbed 220 feet and clung precariously to the top of the iconic San Francisco bridge on a recent clear day to take the awe-inspiring snaps. The person then sent the pictures anonymously to website The Bold Italic, obviously concerned that owning up to the daring, and completely illegal, feat would get him in trouble. Inching your way up the bright red beams of the 76-year-old structure is seriously dangerous - but these incredible shots are worth going crazy for in the safety of your home or office. With the vibrant red contrasting with the blue of the ocean, the famous landmark looks more like a rollercoaster than a busy, functioning traffic bridge. But then when you peer down, and what looks like jelly beans from such a height are in fact cars, transporting commuters about the beloved Californian city. Other images focus on the steel and cables used to build the ground-breaking bridge over four years in the 1930s and in another, the adventurous artist's shoe can be seen if you look carefully. It's not clear how he got up to his scary vantage point. But thankfully, he made it down in one piece, and lived to tell the tale and share his epic shots.

If you have a fear of heights, you probably won¿t be able to look at them without breaking into a sweat The Golden Gate Bridge was opened to vehicular traffic on this day in 1937 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt pushed a button in Washington DC. Construction on the bridge began on January 5, 1933 and lasted a little more than four years, costing more than $35 million. The day before vehicle traffic was allowed, 200,000 people crossed the bridge by foot.
