Shimmering Waterscape at Twilight

These stunning pictures of sunsets across the globe truly prove the old adage of 'red sky at night, shepherd's delight'. A selection of breathtaking snaps that have captured scarlet skies, brilliant hues of lavender and rich blue wisps of cloud cannot fail to draw gasps of wonder from everyone who sees them. The images of the jaw-dropping beauty are the product of a technician who was determined to capture sunsets from across the globe.

Who needs fireworks? The sun shines from behind a building in Venice, Italy, as residents walk along the streets beneath the wonderful sight. From the burning red clouds of the Austrian mountains to the purple beaches of Thailand these are the sunsets of a lifetime. Over the past three-years German technician Edgar Moskopp, 30, has made pilgrimages up mountains, across rivers and has travelled 7,000 miles to far-flung Panama and Thailand as part of his quest to take spectacular images of nature's most impressive light show. And using only colour balance to boost natures natural colours, Edgar was able to highlight the stunning beauty of the sunsets. 'I like to capture the wonders of nature and the sheer beauty the world presents us,' said Edgar. 'Nature has so many beautiful things to show us as long as we have an open eye for it.

They are photographs of the wild spaces around Los Angeles, capturing the land around it and making the focus of the images not of the city itself but of the landscape.

Photographer Mitch Dobrowner said his goal for his ‘Urban’ series of black-and-white photographs was to show that human development – including the southern California city – is temporary. ‘If I could do a 100 year time-lapse of the city I’d see that everything we have is also just temporary,’ he writes on his blog.‘We’d see that the landscape itself wouldn’t change but what mankind builds would rise and fall.... that we’re only temporary here. The land we think we own, we actually only borrow (for the time we are here).’ He said that this series of photographs stemmed from his first view of Los Angeles from the San Fernando Valley, looking from the Santa Monica mountains. ‘I thought it was one of the most beautiful landscapes I had ever seen. The spirit of that first sighting is all I’ve been trying to capture ever since,’ he writes.

'My travels take me in all directions and to many of the countries in this wonderful world." Edgar explained how he was able to capture his stunning sunset pictures. 'Most of my pictures depend on research before taking the picture," he said. 'I had to figure out a good standpoint and take into consideration the sun angle, season, the angle of the sun and certainly use good timing. 'With landscape photography there is always a good portion of luck.' Most Brits spend time finding seashells on the seashore but one man in the frozen north combs beaches for these incredible diamond-like blocks of ice. Photographer Lurie Belegurschi took these amazing images showing the colourful 'icescapes' of Iceland and Greenland that look almost like giant Fox's Glacier mints. The glowing ice rocks are lit up beautifully by sunsets and sunrises and can be seen in many different colours and shapes in contrast to its surroundings.

The Moldovan photographer scoured the frozen shores over the past year in East Greenland and Vatnajokull National Park in Iceland while on his photography tours. He said: 'Ice is one of my favourite subjects to photograph, especially blue ice. You can find a lot of blue ice in Iceland and Greenland. 'My favourite place in Iceland is Jökulsárlón, a large glacial lagoon in south east Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajokull National Park.

'Situated at the head of Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. 'Near Jökulsárlón you can find black sandy beaches with a lot of icebergs, they look stunning especially during sunset and sunrise. 'I always had to watch the waves. Sometimes they can be really big in Iceland, actually last year a big wave destroyed my equipment. 'I think Icescapes in Iceland and Greenland are really amazing and it should be on everyone's bucket list.' Lurie is a self-taught landscape photographer and moved to Iceland in 2006 to follow is passion, icescapes and the Northern Lights. The 29-year-old used a Canon 5D Mark III to capture the ice.
